Weeks ago, in the depths of my pain from a physiotherapy-induced injury caused by professional negligence, I found myself in a valley.
Having suffered it on the day I was to resume normal activities 12 weeks post-spine surgery, I asked God why.
The nonchalance of those who’d contributed to the incident & the seeming injustice of it all crushed me.
“GOD, DO YOU NOT SEE ME?!” I railed.
Weeks later, I received an IG message. A stranger had written to let me know she’d spotted me at City Hall a few days ago, leading her to reach out. “I’m a lawyer, and I’d like to help you probono.”
I hardly ever go to City Hall. I thought she’d spotted me at the cafe where a friend bought me a drink, but no, it was at the train gantry that she saw me pass by.
It was then that I felt the Holy Spirit tell me, “I SEE YOU. In the depths of your pain, I SEE YOU. You can let go because I’m your advocate.”
That week, I reminisced the days post spine-surgery that I’d sense God’s closeness to me- when in the early mornings, I’d see bizarre sightings of rare nocturnal animals like colugos (flying squirrels) in mid-flight, with unnatural frequency. Only God knows how those rare nocturnal animal sightings speak to me of His presence. (Don’t you have a special way where you just know God GETS and SEES you, too?)
As I healed, I stopped seeing those sightings so often. But one morning, as I hobbled along, I saw a rare nightjar AND a colugo in mid flight. Two days later, feigning ignorance, I prayed for additional reassurance, “I need to know You’re with me through this storm, God.”
That morning, this was what I saw amble towards me- the endangered Sunda pangolin.😭
I felt the Lord tell me 2Chronicles 16:19 – “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him…”.
If you’re in the dark, I want to encourage you- God sees you, my friend. You are not alone💛. “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Ps 34:18 He knows the exact way to speak to you to encourage you. 💛🙌🏾 Look out for His treasures in the dark. (Isa 45:3)
