Our world today keeps telling us to do big things. In Christian circles, the message sadly isn’t much different— “do great things for God!”
But I’m learning, that as we grow greater in position, influence, and stature, the deeper we must grow in our characters.
We’ve spent all our lives learning to grow big branches without understanding the necessities of being pruned. We’ve spent decades learning to stretch out without taking time to dig deep.
It’s happened more times to me than I wished, when I burnt out faster than I expected, fell flat on my face sooner than I hoped, when I earned some form of public recognition- only because my spiritual roots weren’t strong enough to hold up fast-expanding branches.
Mountain ranges are beautiful- but only because they’re made of both mountaintops and the valleys. I’m learning, to be willing to go down into the depths He calls us to, because enjoying the mountaintop without being willing to go low with Jesus only creates mediocre plateaus. Let’s go low & dig deep when He calls us to.
Growing sprawling roots isn’t glamorous, but it’s the only thing that will hold us up, if we want to bear fruit for eternity. ⛰️🍑
