Really touched by all the volunteers (friends and strangers alike) who came alongside us to make this show possible.
You’ll see them ushering, coordinating, setting up, tearing down this weekend…
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!
People have been asking me why my standup comedy is 16 +.
No it’s not dirty, or sexual or anything like that. There’s no cursing or swearing. But let me explain…
My 8-year old, usually loving, supportive and encouraging had an uncharacteristic moment today when she said with a deadpan face to me, “Mummy, you’re a tiger mum.”
It was so unlike her that I almost burst out laughing myself. Instead I asked her, “Why do you say that?”
And then she said, “Because I read it on your Dragon Lady poster.” 😅🤣
This is why the show is 16+— many of the jokes are satirical, and need a certain level of mental and cognitive development to not take them literally. So 16+ is a matter of cognitive suitability— all the jokes are clean! Don’t worry!

Yesterday at the rehearsal, when all the volunteers were hard at work, I went on stage to do mic tests with a couple of low key jokes.
To tell jokes into the darkness with zero response (everyone said they were too focused on their jobs to listen) gave me a glimpse of what it felt like to “bomb.”
But my 8-yr old told me today, “Mama, you’ll do good you know. A lot of people believe in you. People are coming to watch a good show.
And my 6-year old threw her arms around me before bedtime saying, “and remember Mama, if no one laughs, I’ll make sure I’ll laugh for you, because I know it’ll make you happy!” (Even though she knows she can’t stay for the show)
My heart 💛💛💛

I guess tmrw’s performance is more than just a show to me— it’s a quiet rebellion against all the boxes I’ve been tried to be put in.
I’ve been having nightmares all week about a certain number of bullies who’ve been in my life for decades.
This is the end.
