“What if I’m ruining their lives?”That voice still lingers in my head.
But this month, back in Singapore, something shifted.
We had the rare chance to sit with someone trained in third-culture kid assessment—to help us understand how life on the field had shaped our daughters.
Were they maladjusted, traumatized in any ways? Were there red flags to note? Was early intervention needed?
After playing a carefully curated game and chatting with them for three hours, she smiled at me—
“Your children are remarkably happy. Their attachment isn’t to things or places—it’s to your family. Well done, Mummy.”
I blinked back tears.
For every time I feared I was failing them, I now carry these words in my heart—
💛 “Your children aren’t just resilient—they’re bursting with joy. They’re so happy, special, gifted.” — Our paediatrician
💛“Your 6-year-old is sensible, responsible, emotionally balanced. Well done, Mummy.” — A Sunday school teacher whom I didn’t know personally
💛 “How did you raise an 8-year-old with such a big heart?” — A new friend who took her out while I was hospitalized
This month has been unforgettable because of the love you’ve poured into our lives—
1️⃣ Seeing Dragon Lady! sold out and seeing you cheering on our family on stage 🐉
2️⃣ Being treated to old local favourites 🍧
3️⃣ Being interviewed by @iwantthemissingpiece and blessed by the team’s hospitality
4️⃣ Being meticulously cared for by our doctors and dentist when we were in pain
6️⃣ Getting surgical treatment for my 6-yr old and myself promptly 🏥
7️⃣ Devouring orh jian (a local oyster omelette dish) and interviews with @aikenchia 🥢
8️⃣ Seeing our kids treated to their first movie in a cinema and soaked in love by new books from @mystorytreasury , seeing our kids enjoy barre with me at @labstudios._ and loved on by many of you📚
9️⃣ Being lent a pickup truck that helped with our medical appts & more 🚗
🔟 Saying goodbye to a community we love ✈️
To every one of you who showered our kids and us with love, thank you for raising our children with us.
You gave them more than memories. You gave them joy.
It truly takes a village.
Goodbye, Singapore. Till next time. 💛
