Some time back, I was asked to give a talk to new incoming Masters students at Johns Hopkins about how to ace their year. I’d graduated with five awards and honors and they wanted to know my secret.
This it it.
This one thing changed my life- the practice of Sabbath.
I wish I could tell you a simple, saintly story of practicing rest on a regular basis and the returns that came with it. But the truth was- I learnt it the hard, convoluted way.
I hustled and strived, panted and climbed- but got nowhere.
It was only when I reached the end of myself that I chose Sabbath as my last resort, a means to cry out to God when I had no other choice.
That changed my life. Here’s what it did.
PS: Lest I miscommunicate that Sabbath is just an easy means to become even more time-efficient and productive, a TRUE sabbath heart knows it for what it is- an indulgent, unapologetic rest in God and trust in His ways, when we let go completely. That, my friend, is when true fruitfulness comes.
