There are times I am feel absolutely overwhelmed by the magnitude of what needs to be done-
– helping communities in public health, running a non-profit, parenting duties, cooking, speaking engagements, job applications in the humanitarian sector, training for the doubled distance of the next tri Cliff is encouraging me to consider.
When it’s all taken in in one breath, it feels like too much.
But today, as we swam in the ocean, I was reminded-
JUST AS HOW ONE CAN CROSS THE OCEAN ONE STROKE AT A TIME, WE CAN LIVE LIFE ONE DAY, ONE MOMENT AT A TIME.
We don’t have to do it all at once.
Cliff and I often talk about this-
That the hardest part about the open water swim is not swimming- it’s the shock of being in the ocean, pushed to and fro by the currents, and looking down to see everything dark and deep, feeling vulnerable and alone.
The biggest thing I’ve been learning is how staying RELAXED in a stressful environment can change everything.
It’s about telling yourself- if I just enjoy the journey, I will eventually get to where I need to be.
There are days (often most days) I do not want to swim, nor train nor work.
But I remind myself, that it is our faithfulness in the mundane that help at strengthen us for the real tests that come.
It boggles my mind why anyone would want to train in a pool when swimming in open water sea conditions are so different.
But that is what’s needed. It’s the faithfulness in the ordinary, mundane things of life in a controlled environment that set us up for the wild adventures when they come.
