Thank you for journeying with us💛 Since some of you are new and new chapters have been added to our lives, here’s a little introduction.
Hi, I’m Wai Jia. I’m a humanitarian doctor, author, speaker and non-profit founder.
But before you believe any of that shiny veneer, know that before I had a family and even after I became a mom, were years spent fighting depression and doing the hard work of therapy.
Before I won became a Fulbright scholar and won a Presidential award, was a decade of groping in the dark and career suicide from quitting surgical training to spend a year in Uganda.
Before I got deployed by the United Nations to Swaziland as a risk communication specialist during the COVID-19 outbreak, I first nearly flung my way through medical school due to an eating disorder that almost killed me.
In every wrecking, came a deeper restoration, a brighter redemption. God was in it, through it all.
Recent spine surgery in my neck broke me and brought my frenetic life to a halt. I still live with chronic nerve pain, am going through trauma therapy, and trust God will heal me completely someday.
My life changed when I volunteered at a children’s home in Nepal when I was 18, and was evicted with 30 girls who had been abandoned. When God used me, a broken awkward teen to paint my first picture book “Kitesong” to raise $100’000 to build a permanent home for them, my life changed forever. My dream was to serve underserved communities in the mission field with my family someday.
19 years after that day, it finally happened. 😭
I quit my job, emptied our home and moved with 13 suitcases with my husband and 2 little girls across continents to a remote town in East Africa to serve at a mission hospital. 🏥
Now a missionary doctor in Tanzania who partly homeschools, a mama of two, and wife to my cancer-surviving, post liver transplant IronMan husband who wildly inspires me, I’m grateful. 💛
This is our lives.
Welcome to our journey of faith.
We hope this space of broken beginnings and brighter endings will encourage you.
Dream Brave, friend.
💛
