Some time ago, when I had to change my mind about a leadership decision, I felt awful.
“I’ve called people in for meetings, discussed at length, finally decided and now I’m retracting my decision?”
Urgh. 😖
Sorry to say, my first thought wasn’t how delighted I was to have found clarity. Rather, it was “What would others think of me for changing my mind?”
Thankfully, my teammate reminded and assured me, “What’s more important is that you heard and obeyed God’s voice. Even if you have to change your mind, it’s OK!”
Since then, I’ve reflected on how we’ve been raised with the mantra “Stop changing your mind,” and how I, too, so easily parrot that to my kids— when in fact, being yielded, pliable, open to evolving circumstances and our ability to hear God’s voice are far greater assets to have than simply being stuck and stoic in our first decision.
I hope this encourages you- to realize that sometimes, changing your mind might be the most courageous and sensible thing to do. No shame. ✌🏽
