For many years I struggled with feeling “good enough.” And whenever people shared that we need to love ourselves before we can love others, it always sounded a little bit selfish.
But now, years later, as I raise little girls whom I hope will one day become women who feel good enough, secure enough and worthy enough— I’m learning, that the starting point to change isn’t belief in our brokenness which leads to more shame, more hiding and more brokenness (remember Eden?)
Rather, it’s believing in our innate goodness, the IMAGO DEI in us, which propels change towards the redemptive work of God in us.
Someone once asked me how I could believe we were good if the Bible tells us everywhere how sinful, filthy and awful we are. Don’t those two concepts conflict with each other? But we forget, that even before original sin, was Eden, and a sacred process of creation – us made in His image.
If you believe you and your children are innately good and have a propensity to turn towards God for change from our brokenness, perhaps, there’s no conflict at all- just a beautiful paradox. 💛
Let’s resolve to forgive, let go, and be the ones to break the cycle. 🌈🙏🏾
