Many people have asked me where I got this beautiful pink jumpsuit from.
Having a poor sense of fashion and an aversion to shopping, it was a friend who sent me its photo and said, “This would be beautiful for your calligraphy video and project.”
I looked at it wistfully. I fell in love with it. But it was not what our one part-time income could afford. Yet, as the vision of the calligraphy exhibition became clearer, so did the need for an outfit befitting the project.
I went to visit @iwantthemissingpiece, and as I tried it on, Cliff staggered, “WOW. I know you won’t get it, so I’m getting it for you right now.”
We left, my heart filled. Yet, a part of me felt stained with guilt.
But an unusual peace covered me- did I really trust God to provide for all my needs?
So often, we classify our whims and wants as being “unspiritual.” But what if trusting God for even the “frivolous” or “trivial” exudes an even deeper faith?
A day later, a guest we hosted, who didn’t know a thing, handed me an ‘ang bao,’ a traditional Chinese envelope.
“I wanted to get you a gift. But I don’t know what you like. So I want you to use this to buy something beautiful to wear.”
I stared at her.
I opened the ‘ang bao,” stunned. The amount covered the pink jumpsuit, and a little more. I stared at the envelope, when I suddenly clasped my open mouth in epiphany- it was not the usual shade of red, but the exact same shade of fuchsia as the pink jumpsuit I’d brought, with the character 满, meaning “overflow” on it.
I felt God Himself smiling down at me, whispering, “This is my gift to you. I’ve paid it off. I want you to look glorious.”
Such is His extravagant, love of overflow- even when we fail to comprehend it.
I am learning, that God works for our good in spite of our miserly, limited concept of finances. While He values frugality, He also values trust and generosity. I’m reminded, that Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine for a banquet, because He loves to celebrate. He loves for us to trust Him in a little and a lot, especially when we do His work.
Our Father hears your heart if you dare to tell Him. 💛
