This is an incredible shipwreck playground shaped like a whale. đł
Being here in Perth has reminded me of the tension I often hold between two worldsâthe stunning beauty, efficiency, and abundance of the developed world⌠and the raw simplicity, resilience, and resourcefulness of the developing one.
Sometimes I hear people here speak of the âprivilegeâ our kids and their East African friends have of growing up in the developing worldâand I bite my tongue as I hold back mixed feelings.
While I understand the heart behind it, Iâve also come to realize how easy it is to overlook our own invisible privileges.
Many children in the world will never know what itâs like to feel this safe- to play freely outdoors, to enjoy provisions like libraries and paved roads, to never feel like a walking target in public.
I hold my tongue because I, too, straddle between the worlds of immense privilege and lack.
May we never take for granted what others only dream about.
