Years ago, when I interned as a medical student at a rural jungle hospital in Indonesia, I remember being in awe of the doctors there- they lived in cement homes with plastic chairs. We always had to wait for the truck to go to town 4 hrs away to get groceries and things we needed.
How did they survive or live? But they did with joy.
This week, my teeth and gums really acted up. I realized that gum recession from pregnancy and a change in diet since I got here really caused enamel erosion and dentin hypersensitivity. But even finding a soft bristle toothbrush here is hard.
I thought seeing a dentist (one that came recommended) this week would alleviate it, but it might have made it worse I think. And it didn’t help he forgot to wear gloves when he opened my mouth 😣 With a very different level of healthcare here, we’ve never had to trust God so much with our health.
From having a shop a stone’s throw or a click away in Singapore to now needing to pray for visitors to come at the right time who are willing to bring items for us, I realize this is also what it means to live by faith. To trust God.
So maybe it’s silly but finding this extra soft bristle toothbrush in my drawer to use before the next visitor comes (if they agree to help) brought tears to my eyes.
I’ve never needed to trust God this much in my life.
