“That’s ridiculous,” I retorted. “Why would I do something like that?”
The air, tight with tension, froze between Cliff and I.
“Because you need to have faith!” Cliff let out, “Sometimes, until you commit, God can’t show up.”
I stood, face flushed, embarrassed to hear my own words thrown back at me.
You see, I’d availed myself for 3 weeks in North America for my book tour. God had already divinely orchestrated a few speaking engagements for the first week or so. What else could I ask for? I decided it would be time to head back home to Singapore.
But Cliff wrestled with me— that if I’d committed 3 weeks to God, that I ought to believe His plans were not finished yet.
Feeling defeated, I gave in, “All right. Do what you think best.”
“I’m booking tickets to Canada then.”
“This is ridiculous,” I threw both hands in the air. The ‘Asian Aunty’ in me groaned at the foolish waste of money this was. But my face turned to shock when just a day later, I received an email from Canada’s longest running television show, @100huntley , inviting me for two recorded interviews on their set, on the day Cliff had planned to fly us into Canada.
He grinned his trademark megawatt smile, with “I told you so” written all over his face.
I’m learning- that so often we tread gingerly under the guise of good stewardship, when really, what we dare not confess is a lack of faith. Often, God loves to surprise us when we make room for Him to move.
If you’ve been afraid to take the next step because things don’t make sense, remember what you prayed for, stay on course, and make room for Him. Let your faith unlock the miraculous. Let Him surprise you in ways you can’t imagine. 🙌🏾💛
