“Mama, why do you go for Physio? What does a physio do?”
“Oh, that’s a good question, sweetheart.”
I pause to think, trying to answer my 4-year old with simplicity and truth.
“So after surgery, Mama’s body became weak and so a physio helps me get stronger. Does that make sense?”
I speak slowly, well aware of my limitations now. She asks the question at the time I’d normally be at my gym class.
She pauses, before rigorously waving both hands in the hand with vehemence, “MAMA, YOU ARE NOT WEAK! YOU ARE STRONG!”
For some reason, tears dam behind my eyes as I do a double take. “Yes, sweetheart, I think you’re right. I am strong still.”
