*From time to time, I post up an opportunity for Instagram followers to submit questions they’d like me to answer. Here’s sharing one of them.
Hello, thank you for asking this question. It’s a great one, something we all struggle with. And I empathize.
This happens to me too from time to time. Sometimes, it lasts for a day. Once, it lasted for 3 years and I nearly left the Church altogether.
Spiritual dryness can happen for so many reasons-
burnout, illness, mental health challenges, simply being stuck in the mundane or overwhelming life transitions to manage.
1. Finding out WHAT might be causing it is helpful for yr own awareness.
2. Reinstate pillars & boundaries in yr life.
When I’m feeling spiritually dry, I take the chance to relook the spiritual “pillars” in my life-
How is my prayer life?
Do I have time for Communion with God?
Do I honor Sabbath?
Am I spending time with kindred spirits who feed my soul and spirit?
Do I have time for leisure?
Am I enjoying my work?
What toxic relationships or situations do I need to set boundaries with?
3. Run towards, not away!
It’s really easy to give up and just call it quits with God when life gets discouraging and He feels so distant.
But I’m learning, times of wilderness can be either transformational times of testing which deepen and stretch us, or times that can destroy us.
The good thing is- when we decide to bring our vexations to God (even hurl them at Him- read the Psalms!), instead of hiding and distancing ourselves from Him, He will reveal Himself to us— that even in times we never felt Him, He was there all along.
