“What? Seriously?”
I looked at my watch this morning, utterly bewildered. Was I seeing things?
I’d just completed 10 kilometers alone, the exact same distance I did last week when I jogged with Cliff.
And it was in the exact same timing!
The clock stared back at me. How uncanny! An hour and a minute.
I wished it was under an hour. I was so close!
Yet, I felt a voice speak to me – “Why is the number so important to you?”
It was then that I was reminded of this reel I’d made recently- that while numbers help us measure visible progress, there are many other unseen ways to measure our growth too. 🕊️
Today, I ran up and down hilly trails I never have in years. I endured the heat on arguably one of the hottest seasons it’s ever been. I ran alone, with no partner or music to egg me on. All those were reasons to celebrate my most recent timing. Why should I let an extra minute or “no apparent progress” discourage me?
Friend, if you, like me, have used a number against yourself, would you write down all the ways you can congratulate yourself OUTSIDE that number?
If you weigh the same you have in years, can you nonetheless celebrate your body through your increased physical activity, better mental health, improved coping mechanisms?
If you’re earning the same you have in years, can you celebrate nonetheless your personal growth and widened skillsets?
Because God measures us differently. He sees you differently. Celebrate your wins through your faithfulness and obedience, your joy and delight.
For you are infinitely MORE than a number.
