Lately, when I struggled with self-confidence a particular area of my life, I received some well-intentioned advice about what I should do to improve how I felt about my circumstances. 🤷🏻‍♀️
It was Cliff who wrecked my perspective when he called me out and said, “You’ve got it all wrong. If you place your confidence on yardsticks and benchmarks outside your control, you’ll always be subject to external forces. Have you not considered that our confidence should be placed in what God has called you to? Who cares if it “succeeds” in the world’s eyes, as long as you were obedient to whatever God called you to in that season? Why must you measure your success based on conventional yardsticks- your profit margin or achievements? What if you were meant to do what you do because of the lives you touched along the way?”
If you, like me, have struggled with your self-confidence because you’re measuring your success by a certain yardstick, I hope this encourages you— to seek a new benchmark the way God sees fit 💛
