“Oh, Mama, what’s that?”
“Oh gosh,” I said. I knew Cliff didn’t do it.
For months, our 3-year old Esther-Praise had been pleading with us to plant a lime tree in place of the sunflower that had died in our plot at the community garden downstairs.
Cliff and I discussed it-getting a lime graft, planting it, but with the overgrown weeds and soil hardened like rocks, our will wavered.
Then last week, as we walked home, we saw in our little plot of land—the most luscious, fruitful lime bush there ever was!
I stared at it in disbelief. The kids ran, screaming, “Wow! God got it for us!”
My mind raced for answers. Who had we told about little Esther-Praise’s desire for a lime tree?
“Aha! It must Uncle D!” I said. We took the lift to the 7th floor to thank him, only to find out— it wasn’t him.
That night, I stared out blankly, heart pregnant with God’s whispers. No one else knew.
I felt Him tell me— that in our insufficiencies-with our lack of time, energy and expertise, He had stepped in to fill the gap for Esther-Praise.
He’d propelled someone we never told, to take the trouble to buy it, uproot the weeds, soften the soil (hard as rock), and then plant her favorite tree.
“God got this for me! I so happy!”
At church on Sunday, I was a total wreck. With us needing to raise $200K in the coming year to sustain all we do at Kitedreams and Kitesong Global to touch lives, I told God I couldn’t see a way out. On my knees and in tears, I cried in desperation.
Then God brought to mind the lime tree. Esther-Praise had not gone door-to-door to beg for her lime tree. All she’d done was ask her Heavenly Father- probably over and over. He’d heard, and provided the lushest, most fruitful lime bush — far better than what Cliff and I could provide.
I felt Him say, “Where it was barren, I will sow. Where it was hard, i will grow.”
If you’re struggling with a barren season right now, know this— He sees you. He’s not forgotten you. Keep seeking, keep asking. He’s hears. He’s got you.
