This week, as I brace myself for a series of hard conversations, I remind myself that…
Daring leaders who live into their values are NEVER silent about HARD THINGS.
A brave leader chooses COURAGE over COMFORT.
When I circle back to my favorite books, they all have one thing in common.
They challenge me to ask the question-
What do I VALUE and how is this violating that?
So even as I brace myself for a week of hard conversations, I want to share what Cliff and I use-
The Ladder of Integrity from Pete Scazzero’s Emotionally Healthy Relationships series.
A must read for all.
1. Set up a meeting.
2. Prepare for it using this. Write your response down.
3. Practice.
麻烦?(troublesome?) Yea, but if your value yr relationships, then you’ll take the effort.
Another brave thing I’m learning is to WALK AWAY.
Growing up, I always learnt that it’s important to “stick it out,” “finish what you started.”
But if I’ve tasted the food and it’s rancid?
I wouldn’t want to finish the meal.
What if I have no backup plan?
Is that not called faith?
What if the cost of holding onto a relationship OR keeping a work partnership and following through that project is higher than the grief of letting go?
I would walk away.
This week, as hard as it is, as much as we’ve forked out money, time and effort. I’m walking away.
This week, if you’ve reflected on your values and weighed the costs, what decision do you need to make?
