At the book-signing table two weekends ago, I saw an out-pouring of love, as people gave generously towards helping those in need. But more than that, I saw a community of people who rallied together to make this possible.
I had not planned a book session or launch in the month of October, but through the encouragement and initiative of my friends, church and husband, things came together easily.
In particular, what struck me were the consistent comments I received about my husband as people came to pick a copy-
“Yikes, we need more books- oh, he’s already gone to get more? Amazing!”
“Wow he’s so thoughtful to bring you water!”
“Haha, can I have Cliff’s autograph too?”
But one comment, in the midst of a day filled with crowded exchanges, touched my heart,
“You know, you have changed since you got married. Cliff has brought a new stability in your life.”
I had known this surely, but it brought tears to my eyes, to ponder over the powerful witness his life has been as a husband to me, and to know that we just celebrated our third anniversary in marriage.
Before we left Uganda, a HIV-ravaged land with many single mothers, a village lady said in her thank-you speech, “I have never seen a man like Pr. Cliff love his wife like this.”
That was the summation of her sentiments towards us in our year there.
Some months back, after a series of overwhelming interviews and media publicity about myself being a Singaporean missionary doctor who had returned from Africa to Singapore, a close friend came to tell me how he saw Cliff being the engine of all that we did as a team. He commented how rare a man he was, and I could not agree more.
There are few men I know who would go to the lengths you do, to support, love and guide his wife, in full security and confidence.
More than the success of the project, funds raised or anything else, I thank God for you, for being the inspiration behind my books, what I do and who I have become. I hope that I have been and will continue, in the days to come, to be the support and encouragement that you never cease to be, not just to me, but all around you.
Thank you all for yr support.
