Four more days and we’re off.
Many people have been asking us- how long will we be gone for and what are our plans for the future? What will happen to our work, home and communities? Many of these questions don’t have answers.
The roadblocks that lay ahead can become more apparent and forbidding if we dwell on them. They can paralyse us.
One day, on one of our last bike rides with Cliff, I had a simple revelation.
The beautiful skies and sunshine were shining on us as we biked along the beach. Half-way into the ride, we both saw some orange cones in the distance. Seeing that they were road-blocks, I cried out to Cliff, “Looks like we’ll have to turn back!”
Unperturbed, he continued riding and I followed.
It was only at the very point of the orange cones that a tiny road came to view, trickling onto the right towards the sea. Taking that route, it spilled onto the broad road, flanked by towering trees and a vast green expanse, where we had intended to ride along to reach our destination.
It was then that it struck me: that at times where we can only see roadblocks, we have to steady our hearts and continue trusting in God to journey forward. Sometimes, God requires us to exercise trust and faith in Him before He can reveal the alternative path for us.
Do we have a permanent place to stay in Uganda at the moment? No. Do I know if my no-pay leave will be extended? No. Do have an answer with regards to the remainder of my employment bond and missions? No. Do we know if we’ll have children in Uganda or Singapore or Canada? No.
Anticipating the roadblocks along the way often deters many of us to start on the journey in the first place. For some of us, it truncates our journey, forcing us turn back.
But those who did not even embark on the journey, or those who returned to the start prematurely, would never discover what God had already put in place to surprise us with.
Do you see a road-block ahead, are you anticipating failure and are you thinking of turning back before your race has ended?
Press on with trust and faith, and put your confidence in God.
If He has called you on this journey,
He will provide a means for you to reach the very end.
“Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.”
