How apt it was that at the send-off by our church on the last Sunday service we would be attending in Singapore for a while, the message that was shared was on the theme of “Faith and Faithfulness”.
What a timely message for us, to remember that in being faithful to the little that we are given, our faith is grown. And as we are faithful in little, God will give us more to be faithful in much.
Under the limelight receiving the prayer of thousands of people, I thought, how easy it would be to be carried away. But I was reminded, that we must, all the more remember: we aren’t standing there to be perfect bright-shining role models, but just the broken ordinary vessels holding the essence of the miracle of God’s strength, love and grace.
A huge obstacle in our lives is that we would only look for “worthy” things to do, things that would set us in the limelight worthy of men’s applause. But we forget, that it is in our valleys that God develops our character, and in walking out our daily routine of drudgery in the consciousness of God’s grace in our lives that our faith is tested, refined and grown- Jesus washed people’s feet; he ate with sinners.
Pastor said: Faith is a gift, and faithfulness is a fruit.
What a reminder for us, that for all the fanfare in the farewells and support that we have received, our faithfulness must be walked out steadfastly, intentionally, persistently, day in and day out, in the dust and in the heat, in the dry and wet seasons, and in the joyful and lonely times that we will spend in Uganda for the next year or so.
Thank you for journeying with us.
We are so grateful for your continual prayers, support and encouragement.
We set off tonight and will serve for as long as God permits.
We so appreciate your continued prayers for our faithfulness to the good work set before us,
that God has ordained for us to do.
His Lord said to him,
‘Well done, good and faithful servant;
you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.
Enter into the joy of your Lord…
… For to everyone who has, more will be given,
and he will have abundance;
but from him who does not have,
even what he has will be taken away.
