“Do you think she’s ready?”
“I don’t know,” I said.
After all, our five-year old only started school this year, just days after I left for deployment to Africa. What made us think our 3-year old would be ready?
“Are we being unfair?”
Questions.
Yet, we sensed God urging us forwards, to make way for a fresh season for our currently-stay-at-home-Daddy. 🌱
Our hearts sank. Were we ALL ready?
“God, show us?”
Days passed.
“NO, I NOT READY.”
A quiet desperation grew within me. The dissonance felt jarring. Didn’t God care for Cliff’s needs and season too?
But I felt an inner voice ask me, “Would you trust that God is a good Father— of both Cliff and Esther-Praise? Would you trust He knows ALL of their needs?”
I cried out, “If it’s Your will for our littlest one to go to school to release Cliff into his fresh season, give us an inner witness, God. Give Esther-Praise an inner witness too.”
The next morning, I heard, “CHANGE ME, MAMA.“
“Sure, into what?”
“SCHOOL UNIFORM.”
“What?”
Her older sister chimed in, “School means you’ll be dropped off, EP! It’s going to be for a LOOONG time, not like Sunday school.”
“I READY NOW,” came her reply.
In a moment, months of painful waiting turned into an eager, breathless anticipation- “DROP ME OFF, MAMA.”
If you’re a parent struggling with young children longing for respite, know this- God knows and cares for your needs as much as your children’s. There may be seasons of hardship, waiting and ploughing, but they won’t last forever.
Would you trust that He cares for your children as much as He does you? And at the right time, He’ll relaunch you AND your child into our great big world out there.
When you’re all ready. Trust Him, that He readies us.
Hang in there.
