“You’re nuts! That’s so inauspicious!”
To tell you the truth, when God nudged us to keep our wedding simple, and give every cent collected from our wedding angpao (red packets) away to the poor, I wished I’d heard wrongly.
A night before our wedding, my feet turned cold. Surely we could keep some to cover our wedding costs?
But God wanted total obedience.
Regret filled my heart. Dreams for my perfect garden wedding were flushed away. We did a simple church ceremony. Two tables made the banquet.
But as we said yes, He unchained us from the fear of lack. Little did we know, how the next 10 years of our marriage would be desperate for this foundation of faith.
Yet, as I mourned my dream garden wedding, God remembered.
Six months later, when we returned to Canada (Cliff’s home), strapped for cash and planning a backyard wedding ceremony for his family and friends, the unexpected happened.
Toronto Botanical Gardens, one of the world’s top 10 wedding destinations, chanced upon our courtship video and contacted us. Since they were booked up a year in advance, they made an exception to offer us their newly launched floral gardens for our wedding. 😭
“We’d just like to request for your wedding photos for future adverts.”
God showed us, that when we follow Him in obedience, He will provide above and beyond what we dare dream or imagine.
Though we gave away $50,000 worth of ‘angbao’ (red packet) money, He gave us back lavishly. He is no man’s debtor.
Though we might grieve the cost of carrying the Cross, know this- He is a loving Father, and loves to reward those who seek Him earnestly. (Hebrews 11:6) When you seek first the kingdom of righteousness, He will be sure to add “all these back unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Would you give your all to Him?
