I scoffed.
The task felt beneath me. Didn’t he know my qualifications? Surely he had something more important for me to do than this?
But the text was clear- “Wai Jia, can you illustrate a health booklet for migrant workers and translate them into 8 languages- for the tens of thousands of them being admitted into our facilities? We’re overwhelmed, and no one can explain to them what’s going on.”
My heart seared. Why this? Why not something more important. I seethed with resentment.
As Cliff watched my countenance fall and read the text message, he showed me the devotional of the day- Ecclesiastes 9:10: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
Painfully, grudgingly, I set myself to work.
I didn’t know- that that was all God wanted, a heart of availability, of humility, even when I didn’t want to do it.
Who knew that it was through that cartoon booklet that God opened doors for partnerships with the World Health Organization, leading @kitesong.global to partner NUS Medicine to start My Brother SG, a ground-up nation wide platform of diverse partners that empowers migrant workers for better health.
I thought my re-entering frontline clinical work in the pandemic was my sacrifice. But God humbled me- He had better ways to use a broken vessel.
Who knew, that a little cartoon booklet would catalyze my involvement in the COVID-19 outbreak and my eventual deployment to Africa with UNICEF and WHO, fulfilling a prophecy prayed over me 6 years ago.
Obedience to His whisper can unlock your destiny. Faithfulness to the little things unleashes His providence.
Today, is something too small for you to do? Is it frustratingly beneath you? If it’s what God is calling you to do, whether it’s being befriending at a migrant worker outreach or visiting a friend in need, would you give your all and “do it with all your might?”
No gift is too small.
*This year-end, we’d love for more volunteers to join us at our on-ground outreaches to empower our migrant brothers with better health. To serve, sign up at www.my brother.sg/volunteer
