Earlier this year, in the middle of Africa, I was all alone one day.
Desperate to see God come through.
The world buzzed and hummed about me. Busy. And I began to ask God- is there more to this?
“What do you want?”
“I want to be useful.”
“You’re here in Africa to help with the covid-19 crisis with UNICEF and WHO. What more do you want?”
Silence. I knew He knew. Yet He asked.
He asked because He delights in our asking. Our specific, faith-filled asking.
“I want to speak on a global platform. At @propelwomen one day. Train me to speak.”
In the heart of Africa, where no one was listening, I could pray the cry of my heart.
I teared. This was crazy. “Who do you think you are? You don’t have an English name. You don’t have networks in Christian circles. You’re nobody,” a voice said.
Today, I wanna encourage you that we serve a God who sees the “nobodies.” He sees the misfits, the lonely, the ones who are broken. He is the God who sent Samuel to search out David, the young “useless” shepherd boy.
But when David was called, he was ready.
He was ready not because he was smart or slick or trendy. He was ready because day after day, he was faithful. He tended his sheep, he fought off bears. He hid as a “nobody” in God’s palm, singing and worshipping Him.
I remember the days and weeks I’d hide in my room writing and practicing sermons till I wept. Then showing up to an audience of no more than 25. My pride stung. I ached inside. I hated fumbling over my words.
But God said, “This is practice. Preach to 10 in person like you would 10’000. Give everything.”
Today, if you feel like a nobody and want to run away, hide in His wing. Stay faithful. When you feel crushed by your unfulfilled dreams and desperate to be seen by a big God, know this- He sees you.
He is preparing you. He is waiting.
Stay faithful. Stay on course. Stay small.
And as @christinecaine often says, embrace your place. So when God seeks you out to finally propel you into yr destiny, you’ll be ready. ❤️
