I would agree- this is not a cool photo.
Compared to all the “cool” photos from the field- Traveling for hours to rural villages through breathtaking mountainscapes, standing next to gap-toothed villagers beaming from ear to ear, pointing at giraffes roaming free…Yeah, true- this is uncool.
Yet, it’s a milestone of a great deal of what I’ve done here and probably what would make the greatest impact on the healthcare of people here. This is a photo of myself representing UNICEF presenting recommendations to senior government to improve vaccine uptake in Eswatini.
Yeah. Not very cool for social media, I know. But I am learning, that it’s in the everyday mundane that God shapes us. It’s in the routine humdrum of daily living that God moulds us. If you’re struggling where you are now with the boredom of your work, the daily toil of everyday living, know this-God sees your heart.
The quiet toil of faithfulness may not be as glamorous to this world as bold faith, but it is treasured by God, equally. Your everyday life may not look like Instagrammable moments, but that doesn’t matter to God.
In fact, so often, it is in one of those ordinary moments where His extraordinary work is done in and through our lives. And there in the quiet, in the “uncool” moments of your life, may you hear His gentle whisper, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
May that be enough for us, for all of us.
