A letter received from the missionary doctor in Africa, whom I shared about the incident of losing my first patient in the wards:
“Hey Wai Jia,
You did not kill your patient!!! You failed to save her life. That’s is not the same! Your intentions were totally good. And remember, the Bible tells us that our days on earth are counted… “
It reminds me, to see this job every day as more than a job. It is a vocation, a higher calling which constantly challenges us to push the boundaries to touch people, save lives, and make a difference. But with great power, comes great responsibilities. To put things in perspective, it is God and not we who hold the power to someone else’s life. But it is true, that we do have the power to make a difference.
May that difference be a positive one, one from a heart of love.
