As our year in Uganda came to a sweet and memorable close,
we are grateful for the privilege of serving there,
and thankful for all the love, encouragement and prayer
we have received from you all over the world.
Some of the memories I treasure much are best encapsulated in these precious moments:
Receiving what has got to be one of my favorite farewell notes…
I’ve frequently had my name misspelled for obvious reasons
but simply love how one of our village ladies has combined Cliff’s and my name very neatly into
“Mr and Mrs Wycliffe”!
I’m known as “Wai” here for short, so “Wycliffe” is pretty perfect!
Discovering that I could read most of this farewell letter written in Luganda, the local language, by one of our village ladies.
Saying goodbye to our village church kids and ladies,
and loving all their amazing smiles.
I tell them, “It’s not Goodbye but ‘Tunalabagaana'”, which means “See you”
(either in Uganda again, God-willing, or in our heavenly home).
I think we all know, that we will always be knit together in the family of God, wherever we are.
Appreciating all their thoughtful gifts,
especially this personalized plaque with our photo that says,
“Dear Ps. Cliff and Dr. Wai,
Thank you for your service. May God bless you. Safe Journeys.”
This gift must have come at a cost to them.
Above all,we thank God for this opportunity
to experience His goodness, faithfulness and miracles.
While the next season beckons us to return to Singapore for a new purpose,
we know we will leave part of our hearts in the Pearl of Africa.
Here’s us embarking on the 24-hour journey home,
and looking forward to when God calls us again to the mission field.
“We need people who will go, and stay until the end.”
