Sharing an amazing moment over the past weekend:
From a bitter, angry man who cursed years ago as he busked by the train station,
he has totally transformed into a sweet old man (our god-grandpa now)
so full of hope, trust and simple faith
in a God whose love has touched him deeply.
After months of wanting to get baptized,
we finally fulfilled his wish last Saturday at our home.
It was my last wish for him before we head to Uganda in 2 months time.
It meant so much to him.
Upon receiving his baptism certificate, Grandpa Zhou asked earnestly,
” When I die, do I flash this certificate at the gates of heaven?”
To which the pastor simply said,
“No, your details have been sent ‘electronically’ in real time already!
God already has it!!”
If the stories of Grandpa Zhou have touched you deeply,
and you would like to contribute to his well-being in the 12-18 months that we are away serving in Uganda,
please write to us at [email protected].
You may offer a love gift to cover his medical expenses
(he has routine medical check-ups for hypertension, glaucoma and arthritis)
or offer to buy him dinner and have a chat with him when you see him
either on Monday, Thursday & Saturday evenings at Kembangan train station or
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday evenings at Yishun train station.
He would love to chat with you!
Unfortunately, money that he earns from busking doesn’t go to his medical needs- he just saves it.
He only sees the doctor if an amount is given to him personally,
and assigned specifically for that purpose.
It must be told to him, “Grandpa Zhou, this money is for your medical appointments only.”
If so, he is scrupulously meticulous about using that money wisely for his medical care,
which he would otherwise ignore.
We have been praying for people who would like to “look out” for Grandpa Zhou regularly
and just stop to chat with him about his medical needs or otherwise, to see if he’s doing okay,
especially when we are away.
If you have been blessed by his faith,
know that you can make a difference to his life too.
Write to us at [email protected] to give a love gift or
volunteer to jagar (local slang for ‘look out for’) him while we are away.
As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said,
“Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”
And he gave orders to stop the chariot.
Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,
and the eunuch did not see him again,
but went on his way rejoicing.
