Funny how it’s the little things that shape our understanding of the world—and our gratitude.
Ice cream cones are a rarity in our little town in East Africa.
So when our 7-year-old finally found a shop that sold them, she was absolutely thrilled. She looked forward to that treat for weeks… only to discover, when we got there, that they’d run out of cones.
Her little eyes bat back disappointment.
But she took a deep breath, ordered her ice cream in a cup, washed that same cup at home, and recreated the whole experience with masking tape—carefully crafting her own vanilla ice cream cup once more to relish that treat.
Perhaps sometimes, joy isn’t found in getting exactly what we hoped for…
… but in the beautiful, imaginative ways we learn to hold disappointment.

These summer holidays have been busy… with so many grown up things to deal with this season.
Yet, their endless imagination to make an entire ice cream cart out of medicine boxes and masking tape… and popsicles (another thing they really miss from home) really makes my heart smile.
Their ice cream shop is called Sister Screams 😆😅✨
