Today, when we went to the Bird Park to celebrate our little one’s 5th birthday after school, a friendly tram driver offered to sing her a birthday song.
“Come, wait here. Uncle give you something.”
He stole away into a secret door and came out with a special Bird Park toucan pin, “Uncle give you this.”
As we hopped onto his tram, he smiled at us, saying, “I used to be a container truck driver driving 18 hours a day. This is my semi-retirement job now. But my kids are adults already, I missed their entire childhood. That’s why I love kids so much now. My heart just…” His voice trailed off.
I’m learning, how not to take the time we have with our little ones for granted. To savour the moments we get to make their cakes and cake toppers according to what they want, to dress up and act silly, to go to the ends of the earth to bring magic into their lives for a little while.
Because in the blink of an eye, it’ll all be over, and I hope I’ll always know- we made the best of our time together. 💛
