My children have always been bewildered by the kind of doctor I am. After all, it’s a little challenging sharing what I do in public health when their expectation of a doctor is someone in a while coat and a stethoscope.
But my 4-year old lit up when, upon collecting my medal on my behalf as I was on hospitalization leave, she said, “Mama,
you’re a good doctor.
I want to be like you.”
🥲
“Now do you believe I’m a doctor?” I asked her with a smile. She always tells me in all sincerity that she thinks my profession is a chef!
“Yes Mama, I believe you. And I be like you when I grow up.”
😭🥲
