What do you do when your kid won’t cooperate?
So often, I’m guilty of hustling and hurrying them to the next program or activity, which sometimes only leads to more resistance or meltdowns. 💔
Last week, as my 6-year old refused to get a bus to a field trip in Tanzania, my heart broke seeing her through God’s eyes- that she was simply overwhelmed with cross-cultural stress. I sat with her, tears in my eyes, as I watched the buses leave one by one.
As a parent, I keep making mistakes, keep fumbling. But I know that God’s grace makes all the difference. Later that evening, my 6-year old came up to me on her own accord and whispered to me, “Mama, thank you for not forcing me to go.”
The words came flooding back to me- “I’m committed to sitting with you to process these big, hard emotions all your life, my dear. And I hope I’ll never force you to get on a bus you don’t want to go on.”
I hope this reel blesses you.
