Yesterday morning, at the breakfast table, I spilled my entire plate of eggs and chapati on the ground. It was awful, messy and I felt embarrassed in public.
I couldn’t believe that these were the words that came from my 6 and 4 yr old, “It’s OK to make mistakes, Mama!”
Soon after that, we got into a bajaji (tuk-tuk) who took us 20 min in the wrong direction through terrible traffic.
Later that day, my 6-yr old drank from my thermos without realizing there was hot water in there, thus scalding her tongue.
By the time evening came, we all decided our board lesson for the day was clearly—
It’s OK to make mistakes. We are not perfect, we are human. And God loves us anyway.
I was initially worried about whether the kids would adapt to the many sudden changes to their routine, and the cross-cultural stresses experienced. After all, it was a challenge for us too.
How grateful I was to hear feedback from our African friend, “There’s something so special about your girls. Their bond is just… ah-ah. They should be fighting like the other kids with siblings here… but they are so close. What a testimony to God.”
Later that day, I shared with the girls what our friend told us and they asked me, “What’s a testimony, Mama?”
I said, “Hm, a testimony is the story your life reflects of God’s glory.”
I sure hope that’s accurate.
