A real panic used to arise.
Back then, I remember how I used to get anxious with large chunks of time alone with my toddlers.
Tantrums, boredom, and endless requests. How would I pass the time?
It was a beautiful homeschooling Mama-friend of 4 kids who shared with me years ago- “The best curricula is from the Holy Spirit. I just pray and ask God to show me every day what to do with my kids. This week, we were doing the letter C, and we discovered caterpillars. How special!”
I remember wanting that- a free-flow, Spirit-led relationship, from which came genuine teaching and impartation.
As the school holidays begin, I began to experiment with this.
I picked up an old book about a Forgivenesss Tree given to us by a neighbor.
My idea was to make a craft of a tree and learn about water moving from its roots to its leaves but the kids had other plans.
“Let’s sing the Fruits of the Spirit song while we stick the leaves! I want to write LOVE JOY PEACE inside the leaves! I want to make all kinds of fruits!”
“Here’s my birds’ nest.”
“Here’s a cross at the roots.”
I’m learning- the best time spent with our littles doesn’t need to be fancy. If you’re stuck at home with simple things, don’t panic. If you don’t have access to well-curated curricula, expensive enrichment classes or fancy indoor playgrounds, take a deep breath, pray and let Him lead you.
Perhaps that’s the best kind of lesson plan.
PS: I’d love to hear fun activities you do with yr littles too 🙂
