Grateful for the front-page feature and an interview with @straits_times on their “Big Story” section on “The Sunday Times” ❤️
If there was just one thing I’d wished was shared, is that contrary to what people might assume, I don’t earn a “doctor’s paycheck.” As a public health professional working part-time, the household incomes of all my team members working under me exceed that of ours. We budget carefully every month. Every speaking honorarium brings tears to my eyes. I get emotional when people leave at our doorstep what we’ve been praying for.
But the truth is- discipleship and obedience comes at a cost. Because of our family mission to serve in developing countries, we believe this is the best way we know how to raise secure kids who might face an uncertain future. 🌎This isn’t the best way for every family to parent, but it is for ours. ❤️
Have you and your spouse sat down together to align His mission with your family values? If God is calling you deeper to do more for your family, would you say yes? ✨💌
Here’s sharing my favorite parts of the piece:
“What helped Cliff deal with his struggles (as a stay-at-home-dad) were his Christian faith and seeing how his daughters have blossomed under his care. ‘I don’t allow finances to define who I am,’ he said.
And as the wife of a stay-at-home-dad, she has heard remarks implying she should be their children’s primary caregiver and that her career ambitions could threaten their marriage.
The couple have learnt to take such remarks in their stride. Said Dr Tam, ‘I feel it’s very self-sacrificial of @cliff.tam to put his family first. It’s quite counter-cultural for men to be SAHDs. But the most costly gift we can give our children is the gift of our time.”
