One of the most dreadful feelings to live with is the sense of “I wish I had xxx”.
This morning, after I had been invited to speak at evening service at Cornerstone church yesterday, I awoke with a churning sense of ruefulness- “I should have said this, done that, fleshed this out better when I spoke.”
The world felt bent out of shape.
I closed my eyes. The self-corrections came fast and furious, spiraling into a deafening “if only I had”… until a brick hit me- the very message I had spoken on “Saying Yes (to God)” pierced right into my heart-
that as much as we feel we often fall short of what we aim for, struggle with it, even become discouraged by it- God looks at us differently.
What He requires is not perfection, but obedience.
And I rested knowing once again that our Father is not a hard taskmaster. Just as how we would never punish our children for trying to clear their toys but failing to do so immaculately, God looks at our five loaves and two fish and smiles, receives and multiplies our meager offering, however far we think they have fallen short.
It’s not about what we can or aspire to do, but about what we allow Him to do through us, however weak and broken we might be.
He smiles over us, and His delight in our obedience sets us free.
Don’t let imperfection discourage you from stepping out.
If God is calling you to say yes to His dreams for your life, to the dreams He has birthed inside you but you’re afraid to respond to, choose courage.
Choose faith. Say yes.
Here’s sharing the 25-minute message from 36:58 onwards.
